AC - Crop, Forage & Turfgrass Management Editorial Board (AC315)
2019 Annual Report
The CFTM editorial board held its annual meeting on Monday, November 11, 2019. Statistics from the 2019 year were reviewed. CFTM still does not have an impact factor which is critical for attracting submissions from university personnel. CFTM was accepted for the Emerging Sources Citation Index which is a precursor for being considered for the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE). Impact factors are given to journals listed in the SCIE.
Increasing the number of submissions and increasing the reviewer pool are key issues for the journal. The CFTM Technical Editors suggested that PhD students be considered as reviewers. This would potentially increase the reviewer pool and shorten the required review time. Efforts will be made to reach out to PhD students to make them aware of CFTM and enlist them as reviewers. The CFTM Technical Editors also pointed out that publishing requirement is now being required for Extension Educators in some states. The Technical Editors felt that CFTM is well positioned to be a publishing outlet for these educators. Matt Nilsson discussed some ways to attract the extension educators to the journal.
A CFTM sponsored symposium was also discussed. Laura Lindsey suggested a symposium focused on writing for CFTM for individuals unfamiliar with scientific publishing or are new to the field. We are looking for co-sponsors for this symposium. Besides the symposium, we are planning on placing some writing tools for new CFTM authors on the journal’s home page.
Finally, the CFTM editors would like to provide the option to include videos with articles at the author’s discretion. Currently, Wiley provides at least 3 options for including videos in articles. These are video bytes which are a short, public friendly article summary, a video abstract and also inserting a video into the article. These options were discussed at the meeting, along with the potential to create a CFTM YouTube channel as a depository for videos. It was decided to wait for the change over in publishers before pursuing this further.
